A modern tale of fortune-telling in the world of West Texas oil rigs

See writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV shows on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so that they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (man camp), set up the excavation machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, fixers, troubleshooters, and facilitators.

Witty and wisecracking comebacks are his forte

My review is strictly about the entertainment value of the show and whether it’s a waste of time. It’s clear that Billy Bob Thornton runs the show with a strong supporting cast. So if strong language isn’t your thing, then you probably haven’t seen Bad Santa or any of his other movies for the most part.

For that I can appreciate it

The first two episodes are definitely entertaining and I love the balance of humor and then a WTF moment out of nowhere. I’d say it’s a strong enough start to keep you wanting to watch. A gritty show that almost seems out of place in today’s society as everyone has to walk on eggshells about what they do or say so as not to offend anyone.

Other than that, it’s entertaining and not a waste of time

There is a little sexualization of Thornton’s 17 year old daughter in the show, but after research, 17 is the age of consent in Texas, which is where the show takes place, but it still feels a little weird to me, which is why I didn’t give it a perfect 10. I hope the first two episodes are a tone setter for what’s to come and not a rope to where the show starts to fall apart as it goes on.
