Psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud invites Professor C.S. Lewis to discuss the existence of God, Freud’s unique relationship with his daughter, and Lewis’s unconventional relationship with his best friend’s mother. Lewis in Zemlja sjena (1993) 30 years before this film. Lewis is shown researching the Gospels while a woman who appears to be his wife beckons him to bed.
Variations on an Original Theme, Op
This film is set in 1939, but Lewis did not marry Joy Davidman Gresham until 1956. The woman was actually Janie Moore, with whom Lewis lived until 1949. [last lines] Sigmund Freud: From error to error, one discovers the whole truth. Featured in The 7PM Project: Episode dated April 19, 2024 (2024).
Now, I was pleasantly surprised last week by the film ‘La fille de nulle part’ by French director Jean-Claude Brisseau

I was particularly impressed by the depth of the dialogue and realized that I am no longer used to this: a director who assumes his audience has read a book before. It seems that films increasingly take the silliest of the bunch as their starting point; everything has to be spoon-fed and explained. Freud’s Last Session could have been a fantastic opportunity to create a film that grips you intellectually and keeps you intellectually engaged.
Why is there no character development?
Why isn’t there a deeper exploration of the father-daughter relationship? Why is there no real dialogue between Freud and the professor? Why are we not given any real insight into the psychology of the three main characters? It’s about Freud, for God’s sake!
A missed opportunity
He’s the founder of psychoanalysis! The levity of the production completely detracts from the subject matter. It’s like making a cowboy movie without any cowboys.
