In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler gets a high-profile job for which she is ill-suited, with tectonic implications for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-life sets as filming locations for the series, including the still-new US Embassy (in Nine Elms) opened in 2018.

The only location not available was Winfield House, the current residence of the American ambassador. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London other than Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming.

). I have to admit, I wasn’t planning on watching The Diplomat, but after hearing so many great things about it and reading all the great reviews, I thought I’d give it a shot.

I was hooked from the first episode

I’m so glad I did because it was amazing. I’m actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

I could definitely see this series winning some awards

Even though Keri Russell was great on The Americans, I thought it was more of a writing thing than acting, so I wasn’t sure if she and Rufus Sewell could carry a series as leads, but they do, they’re both fantastic here. The chemistry between the two is what makes this show so good.
