Chronology

Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, makes a play to seize control of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti talk about how they are in the underworld. Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin to smoke in The Batman (2022), but failed. However, in his own series, the character is depicted as an occasional smoker who prefers cigars.

Totally hit the tone and mood

The DC Studios logo takes place in a rainy Gotham alley. The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros logo. Performing on The Graham Norton Show: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). Gritty, dirty and dark, but Farrell manages to capture the charm of Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano.

Where to start with Farrell

The sopranos have similarities, especially in tones. There’s a lot going dark in this opening sequence, but there are still comedic moments that fit the tone and don’t detract from it. Amazing is the right word. It’s great to see talented star actors take on roles like this, and the makeup/cgi or whatever they did to physically transform him into a penguin not only passes the eye test, but looks incredibly realistic.

And Farrell as an actor is completely immersed in this role

There is always the risk that if the make-up job is not good enough or just a little worse, it can completely distract. In Penguin, it adds to his performance and the overall quality of the show because it’s such a damn good job. I may be a little biased because he was one of my favorite actors before this show, but I think this will give him the accolades he deserves. I never tune in to new shows right away because I like watching.

Didn’t disappoint, actually surprised me
